I didn’t reach the 50,000 words in July.  But the good news is.  I am now well on my  way with  my second book.  I have hand written a great deal but  not typed it to the manuscript.

Write every day, even if only a short paragraph, jot  down  any  ideas, or thoughts that come to mind.

New writers, Make a character profile. Name, Age,  Appearance, including any scars, tattoos.

What habits does he or she have? ( does he/ she bite her nails ,has a nervous cough etc.)   Single, Married, Children, Bring the character to life.

Happy Writing,

AJ 🙂

How are you  progressing on the 50,000 words in the month of July?  I don’t know if I  will reach the target of typed to manuscript but I am now certainly  writing every day.  Yes.. I will reach the hand written amount and more.  So that will definitely be a month of satisfactory writing.  Then to leave it for a few days, re read, corrected and typed.  So a productive  time so far.

Another project for new writers.  The ten minute writing challenge.  You will find that very  helpful. Get a subject set a timer, and write.  (You  can find lots information about this on google)

Happy  writing all.

NEW WRITERS – How are you progressing on the 50,000 words in the Month of July Challenge?

I gave a challenge on the 1st. of July.  Can you write 50,000 words of your proposed Novel, in a month.  Yesterday I reached 8,245 words (typed) on my second book.  Behind Closed Doors – The Madam.   I hand write first,  (not counted) then read through, make corrections, before typing onto my  manuscript.

How have you done so far?   Even if you don’t reach the 50.000 words. It will help you get into the habit of daily writing.

Happy writing to you all,

AJ 🙂

NEW WRITERS, WHEN WRITING YOUR NOVEL…DO YOU USE THE SAME WORD FOR EMOTIONS / EXPRESSIONS TOO MANY TIMES?

Posted in Author, Book, Creative, Creative Writing, Inspiration, Memoir, Novel, writer, Writing, Writing Experiences with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 7, 2015 by A. J. Lee

You’ve written your chapter or a large amount of your Novel, then having read through it. You see that you’ve used the same word too many times? Emotions/Expressions. I know  how frustrating that  can be.  On the first draft of my book,  I used the words ANGRY,FRIGHTENED , and PLEASED to name a few, too many times.  I had to change them, making sure the altered words were appropriate.

Now when I handwrite, I underline the word I want to check for similar actions, if typing I add an extra letter at the end of the word, so that it’s then highlighted.  I can check the word once I have completed my chapter. The underlines bring it  back to your attention. If it looks right just correct the spelling.

When reading through your manuscript, you can become word blind. Especially if you read it immediately after a writing session.  Leave that piece of writing  for a day or two then read it  through again with a fresh mind.

Use a Thesaurus for the words you wish to change. List them, tick them when used.

The word ANGRY, you can also use some of the following:- annoyed, heated, raging, furious, fuming, enraged, pushed to far, infuriated, livid, upset, mad.

FRIGHTENED :- afraid, alarmed, anxious, concerned, confused, distressed, fearful, mortified, puzzled, scared, shaken, terrified, uneasy, worried stiff.

PLEASED :- happy, satisfied, content, cheerful, delighted, hearty, at pease, cheerful, content, glad, thankful, satisfied, excited, overjoyed, elated, joyous, thrilled.

This is how I polish up my manuscripts.  I hope it is of help.

Happy writing,

AJ 🙂

NEW Writers. Do you find it difficult to give your Characters a name? It’s like finding a babies name. Some help from my experiences writing.

Naming characters is a challenge. I Gave this plenty of time and thought. I have changed three of my characters names in my memoir a few times. (I could NOT use their real name or WORKING name) It took a while until the name was right for that character as I actually knew them.

I made a list of male and female names. It’s an endless task.  Quite fun though listing so many names.

********

Character names In YOUR novel, depends of course on your era.. 1920’s names would not fit in 2015 ect.

Your character name is important.
Use different first initials. Not to confuse the reader.
Avoid middle names or initials.
A character you may wish to draw attention to why not use alliterative initials. B.B. G.G. ect..

To find a character name.  You could write a some first  names and surnames on pieces of paper. Jumble  them up pull them out randomly.  See what they look like in front of you. (Your own name generator) 🙂
Names you may never have thought of suddenly look good.

I hope this is helpful,
Happy writing to you all,
AJ 🙂

Bank Holiday today in UK. I am taking a break from writing… Or am I?

I am going to my  daughters today.   A walk to her home is only  about five minutes away.  Some fresh air and of course the exercise will do me good.  It’s a nice sunny  day.  Makes a change. Bank Holidays, it usually rains.  I do see some rain clouds lurking.

We decided we would do some gardening.  I wonder if I  will  get any ideas come to mind in the middle of  planting the petunias and geraniums.   Where shall I keep  my notepad?  It’s bound to happen.  I can’t think.. . ‘Oh!. I will  write it later.’ Can I ? It will be forgotten.

Have a lovely day all,

and Happy writing.

AJ 🙂
