How are you  progressing on the 50,000 words in the month of July?  I don’t know if I  will reach the target of typed to manuscript but I am now certainly  writing every day.  Yes.. I will reach the hand written amount and more.  So that will definitely be a month of satisfactory writing.  Then to leave it for a few days, re read, corrected and typed.  So a productive  time so far.

Another project for new writers.  The ten minute writing challenge.  You will find that very  helpful. Get a subject set a timer, and write.  (You  can find lots information about this on google)

Happy  writing all.

NEW Writers. Do you find it difficult to give your Characters a name? It’s like finding a babies name. Some help from my experiences writing.

Naming characters is a challenge. I Gave this plenty of time and thought. I have changed three of my characters names in my memoir a few times. (I could NOT use their real name or WORKING name) It took a while until the name was right for that character as I actually knew them.

I made a list of male and female names. It’s an endless task.  Quite fun though listing so many names.

********

Character names In YOUR novel, depends of course on your era.. 1920’s names would not fit in 2015 ect.

Your character name is important.
Use different first initials. Not to confuse the reader.
Avoid middle names or initials.
A character you may wish to draw attention to why not use alliterative initials. B.B. G.G. ect..

To find a character name.  You could write a some first  names and surnames on pieces of paper. Jumble  them up pull them out randomly.  See what they look like in front of you. (Your own name generator) 🙂
Names you may never have thought of suddenly look good.

I hope this is helpful,
Happy writing to you all,
AJ 🙂

Write a little or a lot.  Just  keep writing.   A scenario for you.   You have gone for your daily walk.   Heavy rain begins, you take shelter.  You hear a loud crashing sound.  What was it ?

Another way to  get you writing.  Tear up  pieces of paper. About twenty will work.  Write a single word.   Tree, Car, Walk, Sad, Happy, Lost, Accident,Vampire.  What ever comes to mind.    Take out six. See what  you  get then write something involving those words.

Happy writing,

AJ

I know writing is done daily if you can.  Even a few words,   is a must.   No matter how little you write…  keep writing.  Not sure what to  write.  How has your day been?  Jot  that down.   Read through some of your manuscript.  Or the notes on a new plot.

I like to write every day.  This is includes my little blogs.  I hope you have have a lovely weekend.  With lots of writing,  Not throwing too much in the waste paper bin.

Happy writing,

AJ

The weeks flew by, I was now a month into working at Ophelia, Dakota not being around made a  big difference.  I arrived to work now more confident, I didn’t jump a mile when there was a knock at  the door.  I hadn’t yet met anyone I knew.  I’d worried about  that.  It was bound to happen sometime.   The money was a great  deal more than temping at  the office agency.   I could always go back to that if necessary.

Today I’m working with Charlie, Julie and Maria.  We were still waiting for Maria to arrive.  It  was getting late.  We were to open in about fifteen minutes.  The phone rang, Charlie answered.

Her eyes open so wide I thought they’d pop out  of her head.  ‘No way  man, you  can’t leave us,’  she gave a long disappointed sigh.

‘What up?’ Julie asked.

‘It’s Maria…’

‘What’s happened to her?’ I asked, concerned.

‘She’s gone and got herself a job at Velvets.’

‘Her choice,’ Julie shrugged.

‘You gotta come see us Bitch’… she shouted, down the phone at Maria

‘Tell her good luck from me.’

‘Wait…’ she held her hand up as she continued in conversation.

Charlie became all excited.  ‘Guess what?’

WHAT…Charlie?’  Julie asked curtly.

‘I’m  gonna see if I can go there too,  the owner is definitely getting another parlour,  its in Swindon.’

‘So…Maria moves to another place, so all going to  follow her…I’m staying here… better the devil you know…you do realise it’s twelve hour shifts there, I heard.   Plus you  got to  travel to Swindon by  car or train.   Makes it a damn long fucking  day.’

‘I might not be at  the new place,  I might be at Velvets.? Duh.’

‘You  better get off the phone too, we want punters to call.’

I sat in silence,  I  didn’t want to get drawn into this conversation.   I could tell Julie was annoyed.   If Charlie left too, and now no Maria,  it  wasn’t going to be such a fun place to work.

‘I ain’t going yet,  the place in Swindon not ready yet, an no vacancies at  the moment,   Maria was lucky a girl was sacked.  Izzy told her about the vacancy before it was advertised…Lucky cow.’

Charlie ended the call with Maria, she poked her tongue out at Julie, who was on her way  to the kitchen to make coffee.   I had to hold in a giggle.  Julie certainly was a miserable cow  at  times.   Charlie didn’t care,  she took it al in her stride.   It was never a dull moment when she was around.

We were ready for the punters,  all had calmed,  Julies mood had lifted…a little.   The coffee had helped no doubt.   An hour had passed, the phone was quiet.   The mid-day paper isn’t out for another hour.   So it’s coffee, read magazines, books do crosswords… anything to pass the time.   Again only  three of us working.

I heard a noise outside,  didn’t pay  much attention to it.  About a minute or so  passed, then a loud thumping and banging at  the door.   I jumped a mile.   This wasn’t a punter.   He would just knock once or twice.   Julie jumped up from the sofa,  walked across to the heavy netted window.   She took a few steps forward to get a better look.  Then quickly stood back, her expression changed.

‘Guess who?’

Julie walked toward the door.

‘NO!… don’t let him in!’  Charlie pleaded as she grabbed her bag,  ‘I ain’t here, okay.’

She disappeared fast from reception.   I didn’t know what to do, the banging on the door continued.   I knew only one person would put that  fear and panic in the girls… DAKOTA……………………..

It’s 4.30am. I don’t know why I find this the best time to write. Maybe it’s the quiet. No distractions.

The peace and quiet.  No one around to interrupt my flow.  No phone calls.  No traffic. Nobody will knock at  my door.  All I hear are the birds singing bringing on the new day.   I can write undisturbed.   I will now continue my  writing of my  second book. Behind Closed Doors – Memoirs of a Madam.

Later today I  will write another snippet for you.  from my book Behind Closed Doors – The Masseuse.by A.J. Lee

Weekend is here. How about some writing fun

This  helped me a great  deal.  It made me think A LOT.  Characters, situation,  interactions.  You could try  it. I’d love to know how you  get on.

write 200 – 300 words on two or three characters in conflict.

Decide upon an a dramatic incident.  This can be from your daily life or a newspaper item.

With a beginning, middle and end.  Get your thinking  cap on ..

Happy  writing.
